Overview
The Senior Systems Administrator within the Northwest Permanente Medical Informatics team is responsible for performing complex systems analysis, providing support for enterprise systems, performing impact analyses of system changes, and working closely with Kaiser Permanente Northwest IT System Administrators, Northwest Permanente operational leads, and Physician Informatics Champions. The Senior Systems Administrator is also responsible for managing build projects independently. Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid - mostly remote with some days in office per month)Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions -
- Provides operational and information systems expertise in the development, training, testing, optimization and application of Kaiser Permanente's HealthConnect business and clinical systems to meet problem-oriented and opportunity-driven objectives.
- To sustain efficient current and future functionality, provides expert operational and information system expertise for new version upgrades, optimization of current functionality, and incorporation of new modules in the Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect clinical systems.
- As the subject matter expert in multiple Epic applications and modules, provides system information to regional leadership, clinicians, staff, brokers, employers, professional organizations and vendors including Epic Systems Corporation.
- Mentors other technical team members to assists them with their build and implementation plans.
- Provides oversight of projects and lead the resolution of complex production problems and enhancements in the KP HealthConnect systems.
- Collaborates with work teams, departments, regional leadership, clinicians, staff, and information technology to define needs, facilitate agreements and decisions.
- Plans execution of small projects including user communication, support and post implementation review.
- Plans and leads relevant workflow sessions and manages resulting workflow changes and communication.
- Assesses customer needs, research options, supports analysis, designs, tests, and implements application solutions.
- As the subject matter expert, tests complex system changes, develops training materials, assesses workflow impact and solutions, and manages deployment.
- Supports communications with product users and suppliers to share information, identify opportunities, resolve problems, prioritize customer requirements, and maintain continuous improvement through customer feedback.
- Assists with application-oriented administration and technical support for production and non-production environments.
- Plans and performs complex system configuration.
- Assists technical and project team members to resolve system problems and application-specific issues.
- Reviews, analyzes and recommends implementation of release notes as received from Epic Systems.
- Escalates identified issues, risks or problems to manager according to processes.
Minimum Qualifications -
- Bachelor's degree in health care, information systems, business, library science, information resource management or related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Certified/Proficient in two (2) Epic modules or application sub-components
- Experience on at least one major system implementation.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated skills in project management.
- Ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams through influence and collaboration.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications in business settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, and results orientation.
- Demonstrated experience with office software, e.g., Power Point, Excel, Word and/or MS Project.
Preferred Qualifications -
- Three (3) years' experience using at least one of the Epic suite of application products or completion of Epic certification in an application(s).
- Five (5) years' experience at Kaiser Permanente or a Permanente Medical Group.
- Experience on at least two major system implementations
- Certified / Proficient in three (3) Epic modules or application sup-components.
- Demonstrated skills in complex project management
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams through influence and collaboration.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications in business settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced degree in medical informatics, computer science or a related health care field.
