The role you’ll contribute:

The Certified Lactation “Counselor” is a member of the obstetrical healthcare team and provides breastfeeding support to the obstetrical patients and nurses alike. This position assists in the preparation of supplies and equipment for the obstetrical patients and assist with breastfeeding within the scope. The certified lactation “counselor” is responsible to maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practice on breastfeeding. Guidance will be provided by the Board-Certified Lactation “Consultant”.

• Provides breastfeeding support and education using up to date  knowledge and skills. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding education to both expectant and postpartum mothers.
• Creates an environment that promotes learning.
• Will assist the Board-Certified Lactation “Consultant” in obtaining appointments for the outpatient breastfeeding clinic (Nook).
• Collects breastfeeding data and maintains pump rental delivery/records.
• Distributes and reviews breastfeeding intake forms to effectively consult with patients.
• Refers to or consults the Board-Certified Lactation “Consultant” if complexity in care is noted or there is need for further assessment.
• Documents visits and education provided in a timely manner.
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·         High school graduate or GED required.

·         Lactation “Counselor” certification

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·         1 year as a Lactation “Counselor”

·         Obtains at least 5 CERPS yearly
