We are seeking an experienced Genetic Counselor to join our Medical and Molecular Genetics team at IU Health!
Medical and Molecular Genetics is a team-oriented environment focused on the research, education, diagnosis and management of genetic and metabolic conditions. Full Time, Day Shift
Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
No nights, weekends or call requirements
100% outpatient
Join a large, established team of 14 physicians, 40 other genetic counselors, 3 APPs and 7 GCA's
Opportunity to be involved in research and student supervision
Responsibilities:
Provides genetic counseling and testing for patients and families including identifying, ordering and coordinating genetic laboratory tests, and other diagnostic studies, as appropriate for the genetic assessment.
Integrates genetic laboratory test results and other diagnostic studies with personal and family medical history to assess and communicate genetic risk factors and clinical implications.
Educates health professionals, patients and families about genetic diseases and hereditary disorders, treatment options, risk factors and any available community resources.
Refers patients to specialists when necessary.
May teach or oversee genetic counseling students. May teach or oversee genetic counselors I & II.
Qualifications:
Requires Masters degree in Genetic Counseling or Medical Genetics.
Required to reside in the state of Indiana
Requires 7-10 Years of clinical genetic counseling experience, ideally with exposure to several sub-specialties within genetics
Required to maintain a current Genetic Counselor's license in the state of Indiana.
Requires Board Certification by ABMG/ABGC or Board eligible within 1 year of employment.
Requires basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
