SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for the daily supervision of the Surgical Gross Room, the gross examination and sectioning of surgical pathology specimens, and determining work assignments for technologists and technicians. Coordinates the surgical specimen workload of residents and serves as a technical resource. Ensures timely completion of processing of all surgical specimens and ensures tissue specimens are processed according to protocols for patient diagnosis. Coordinates functions between the Gross Room and other laboratory sections, surgery and physicians. Maintains various records, logs and files as required by department standards and procedures and regulatory and accrediting organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either (A) Bachelors Degree from a NACCL-accredited Pathologists' Assistant educational program required or (B) Bachelors degree in a job-related field plus 2 years experience working in a laboratory performing high complexity testing.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements.
The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
AAPA certification preferred. 3 years experience as a Pathologists Assistant in an academic hospital setting preferred.
