About the Role:
Job Summary
The Director of Governmental Affairs coordinates, plans and assists in implementing the legislative agenda at the State level for Northeast Georgia Health Systems, Inc. (NGHS). This person contacts and confers with members of the legislature and other holders of public office to educate them on legislation important to NGHS.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications:
Educational Requirements: Bachelor in Nursing or Bachelor in Business Administration, Political Science or related field.
Minimum Experience: A minimum of five (5) years healthcare management experience with health system or large hospital organization, to include responsibility for governmental affairs of political process.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Actively participates through research, correspondence, conferences, and attendance at legislative meetings, the Georgia Alliance of Community meetings and Georgia Hospital Association.
Serves as chair or co-chair of the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals statewide legislature task force - responsible for setting legislative agenda for the General Assembly.
Studies proposed legislation to determine possible effects on interest of NGHS.
Confers with legislators and officials to emphasize weakness or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment to measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to NGHS interests
Remains at Capitol lobbying during entire General Assembly each year.
Contacts individuals and groups having similar interests in order to encourage them to contact legislators and present views.
Serves as a member of the Georgia Alliance of Community and GHA Hospital's statewide networking task force.
Plans and coordinates meetings with elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals, and allows officials to respond to NGHS concerns.
Contacts regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings to enlist support for NGHS' interests.
Attends statewide study committees and commissions to provide input in support of NGHS and not-for-profit hospitals.
Attends and represents NGHS at statewide political Caucasus.
Works with Public Relations, and Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals GHA to prepare news releases and informational pamphlets in order to state NGHS' views, and to inform public of features of proposed legislation.
Assists in organizing annual meeting of Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals
Works with Director of Medical Affairs on legislative issues common to NGHS and Medical Staff.
Works with Good News Clinic, the Health Department and Health Access Initiative to support legislation that best meets the needs of the community.
Positions NGHS Governmental Affairs as key in-house resource to all organizational directors, managers and VPs for legislative information. Provides accurate and timely response to all information requests, meeting needs of internal customers.
Plans and coordinates mailing with internal staff to address issues of legislative concerns in their respective areas.
Contacts regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings to enlist support of NGHS interest.
Works with the Public Relations Department as needed to prepare new releases and conducts news conferences in order to state NGHS' views to inform public of features of proposed legislation.
Works with Volunteer Services to provide a legislative day for interested volunteers, as appropriate.
Keeps abreast of legislative and political trends and shares information with appropriate management staff.
Works with Director of Medical Affairs on legislative issues common to NGHS and medical staff.
Ensures NGHS remains in good standing with state organizations such as Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals and GHA; anticipating and participating in their legislative efforts.
Serves as a member of the Georgia Alliance Legislative Taskforce.
Serves as a member of GHA legislative taskforce.
Attends Board meetings of the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals.
Works with other organizations and agencies to communicate NGHS position on political issues.
Participates in statewide taskforce, commissions, and study committees appointed by the House and Senate.
