Must have 1 year of Cardiac Device Techexperience or related educationor training from an accredited program. CCDS credential (Certified Cardiac Device Specialist via IBHRE) preferred. Candidates with a current CCDS credential will be upgraded to the Cardiac Device Specialist position. JOB SUMMARY
The Cardiac Device Tech 1 performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management, such as ICD, Pacemaker and ILR evaluations for outpatients, inpatient and procedure areas. Performs pacemaker parameter testing and remote monitoring, including the interpretation of data and recognition of potential life threatening cardiac irregularities that require referral to EP or Cardiology Service. This position is also accountable for ensuring that patients and their families are well-educated and are provided the necessary instructions for monitoring and follow up.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Serves as resource to physicians and other practice employees about device patients and services.
Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormality.
Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
Ensures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
Trouble shoots critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution. Partners with physicians about device status and accurately document device testing in EMR for review.
Educates patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
Provides mentorship and training to junior staff in proper cardiac device interrogation policies and procedures as well as arrhythmia recognition to ensure their use of safe testing methods.
Promotes a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships. Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication.
Keeps equipment in good working condition and tell appropriate team members of problem areas or safety issues.
Ensures programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Ability to work both by yourself and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate interpretations.
A certificate of completion from an approved device technical school (Like Arrhythmia Technical Institute - ATI) that provides a formal curriculum of education and training in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac resynchronization therapy and electrophysiology is preferred.
Completion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).
Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias is preferred.
Proficiency in ECG interpretation is preferred.
Basic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.
Ability to use philosophy and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Preferred to obtain IBHRE certification within 2 years of experience.
Completion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).
Completion of internal Cardiac Device knowledge check off required for those in the Cardiac Device Trainee position.
Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
