Promotes optimum growth and development of pediatric patients and their families by creating a therapeutic environment which minimizes psychological trauma and promotes mastery of health care experiences. Works closely with the Wellness Center providers to deliver individual and group therapeutic play aimed at supporting patients in their wellness journey. Plans interventions in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team. Provides developmentally appropriate education for children and adolescents prior to medical procedures with materials and language that are age appropriate. Coordinates programming and special events for pediatric patients and their families in programming spaces. Provides orientation and supervision for Child Life Services interns and volunteers. Assists in training and orientation of new hires. Works under the supervision of the Child Life Manager.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $47.53 - $47.53 (Hourly Rate).
The UCSF Wellness Center for Youth with Chronic Conditions is an innovative new center that partners with patients, families, health care providers, and researchers to create a lifetime of wellness for children and adolescents living with chronic illness. Our center focuses on the co-creation of individualized pathways towards wellness for children with chronic illnesses and their families. We partner with patients over the long haul to provide personalized holistic support - connecting them with wellness services, providing support in the transition from pediatric to adult medical care, and helping them build a community of peers. By embracing a wellness-centered framework for care, we seek to compliment what is already available within the traditional medical system, and to address important gaps in empowerment and psychosocial connection.Required Qualifications Child Life Specialist 1 Requirements: * Minimum qualifications for application include a Bachelors degree in Education, Child Life, Child Development, or a related field, or 5 years of experience. * Masters Degree Preferred * Child Life Certification required * Minimum of 2 years paid experience as a Child Life Specialist required. * Experience with infants, surgical and intensive care units preferred. Child Life Specialist 2 Requirements: * All of the requirements for a CLS 1 plus, Masters degree in Education, Child Life, Child Development, or a related field, or Min. 2 Years if Master's, 5 Years without Master's years of experience as a Child Life Specialist.
