Nemours is seeking a Perfusion Technician to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, FL.
The perfusion technician serves as an integral member of the cardiothoracic surgical patient care team. She/he assists the perfusionist in various settings, performing duties under the direct supervision of a perfusionist, anesthesiologist and /or Registered Nurse. This position assists with preparation, setup, and cleaning of perfusion equipment before, during and after procedures. The perfusion tech cleans, disinfects, sends for sterilization, stocks, orders and maintains the routine perfusion equipment and supplies. This position requires the ability to follow detailed instruction, capacity to work independently and willingness to learn. This position also aids and covers the anesthesia technician when needed, the anesthesia tech will aid and cover this position when needed.

Position Responsibilities
- Assists with set-up of perfusion and cell saver equipment as directed
- Operates blood gas analyzer according to manufacturer recommendation and guidelines
- Calibrates and maintains the point-of-care testing equipment. Processes blood samples for arterial blood gas studies and clotting times. Documents the data and completes the quality assurance measures
- Anticipates the needs for additional equipment, supplies and/or instruments by assessing specific patient and anesthesiologist needs, utilizing critical thinking skills
- Ensures perfusion equipment is available and ready for use when needed. Assures protocol for reporting equipment failures
- Assists and documents quality control checks on perfusion equipment
- Assists supply management to maintain par levels of supplies, monitors integrity of products including expiration dates, and orders supplies as needed
- Communicates and develops, with the perfusionist back up supplies for stock outs
- Retrieves needed blood and blood products from the blood bank
- Correctly handles and ensures appropriate labeling of blood specimens prior to transport to lab
- Covers anesthesia tech when needed and maintains competencies for anesthesia tech role
Requirements
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- American Heart Association BLS required upon hire
- AMSECT Patient Blood Management Certification preferred
- Prior experience preferred
