Job Summary
Under general supervision, works with clinical staff/physician to provide primary healthcare to patients. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. As appropriate for clinical setting provides treatment for illnesses, injury, emergencies, prenatal care, follow up, and screening and testing. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment.
3-5 years of experience strongly preferred
Essential Functions:
Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient in collaboration with the physician and with other disciplines and standards of care or by applying appropriate protocols, and makes decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (20%)
Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (15%)
Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. (10%)
Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (10%)
Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. (10%)
Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (10%)
May be assigned (SBHC providers shall be assigned) to perform leadwork and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol. (10%)
Development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. (10%)
May provide clinic dispensary duties. (5%)
Education:
Master's Degree Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program Required
Work Experience:
1-3 years 1 year related clinical experience Required
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
CPNPPC-Certified Pediatric Nurse Primary Care - PNCB - Pediatric Nursing Certification Board Required and
DEAREG-DEA Registration - DEA - Drug Enforcement Agency Required and
NPS-Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist - NCC - National Certification Corporation Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
? Knowledge of medical principals, procedures and community resources.
? Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
? Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
? Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
? Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
? Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
? Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
? Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
? Ability to prepare accurate reports.
? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
