Employee will be assigned to the Emergency Department, Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, Tucson, AZ, performing ongoing patient care duties in the Emergency Department and assisting with or performing other related technical health care procedures under the supervision of the Emergency Department Physicians as competency is demonstrated and documented. Operates specialized medical equipment such as defibrillators, electrocardiographs, and oxygen apparatus Performs additional duties include dressing changes, wound management, suture removal, repair of simple lacerations, foley catheters insertion, splint, binder and bandage applications, and performance of tracheotomy care. Performs specimen collection, preparation and transfer to the lab for processing of blood, tissue, urine, stool and sputum. Responds to medical emergencies on the facility grounds, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) as assigned. Conducts or assists with the training of personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic, and advanced emergency medical care techniques if appropriately trained and qualified.
