Put your planning skills to the test!This senior position will join a team of four other dosimetrists in supporting complex patient care for our clinics in Killeen and Temple.Our clinic in Temple, where this position will be mainly located, houses a Varian Truebeam.We use the Varian Eclipse treatment planning system.Our dosimetry team also supports the education of four physics residents and the occasional dosimetry student.
The pay is competitive for this position per ongoing and routine market evaluations.This position follows a hybrid remote working model.At BSWH you get to work with a highly skilled team with a constant focus on the quality of care of our patients.
Responsibilities include:
·Assist in the optimal simulation of our radiotherapy patients
·Consult with our team of medical physicists, with direction from the radiation oncologist, in creating thebesttreatment plans for our patients
·Mentor junior dosimetrists, physics residents, and dosimetry students
·Take part in clinical research and make our clinic and the world a better place
QUALIFICATIONS:
·Medical Dosimetrist certification and three years dosimetry experience are required for this senior position
JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Dosimetrist II, as a member of the radiation oncology team, generates radiation dose distributions and dose calculations (in partnership with the Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist) for the treatment of cancer patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Studies patients' medical histories. Reviews and verifies the physician's treatment plan/prescription for treatment technique, treatment volume, critical organs, treatment dose, precautions, and orders/notes.
Designs treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation to establish a treatment field technique that delivers the radiation oncologist's prescribed radiation dose while limiting loss of important healthy organ function. Communicates treatment plans to Radiation Oncologist for approval and to Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
Works with radiation therapists in the implementation of the patient treatment plans, including but not limited to the correct application of immobilization devices, beam modification devices, approved field arrangements and other treatment variables.
Creates and maintains records of treatment plans and outcomes.
Monitors and records radiation treatments. Ensures treatment records are properly completed with patient identification and appropriate data.
Ensures proper functioning of all radiation oncology equipment.
Establishes equipment setting for each procedure.
Plans and produces molds, casts and other immobilization devices for accurate treatment delivery.
Oversees radiation safety protocols and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies/programs.
Contributes to clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques in cancer treatment, program goals and continuous process improvement.
Fulfills, and provides proof of, continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive accurate and timely computerized treatment plans.
Able to generate radiation dose distributions and calculations with consideration for dose-limiting structures.
Able to interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
Excellent mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry and introductory calculus.
Skill in the use of computers and medical dosimetry equipment; able to perform quality assurance of radiation oncology equipment.
Able to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.
Knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
May contribute to clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques in cancer treatment, program goals and continuous process improvement.
Able to interact positively with patients as needed.
Basic knowledge of billing and coding.
Able to take call, if required.
