At VA Atlanta Healthcare System, our health care teams are deeply experienced and guided by the needs of Veterans, their families, and caregivers. We provide you with health care services at 22 locations serving a 50-county area in northeast Georgia. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery from Georgia Composite Medical Board. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency program in Dermatology, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Board certification in Dermatology Completion of fellowship training in MOHS micrographic surgery (for providers performing MOHS micrographic surgery) Proficiency in spoken and written English. Clinical Responsibilities (75% of time) - Diagnosis of patients with neoplastic, inflammatory and other dermatologic problems in outpatient and inpatient areas.- Directly provides medical and surgical treatment of skin diseases to veterans. - Provides appropriate and direct oversight of mid-level providers, dermatology resident physicians, and other trainees present in the dermatology clinic. - Receives and provides triage and disposition for dermatology consults from VA providers as assigned. - Review requests for dermatologic care including Mohs surgery from community care providers and determines that requested care is appropriate. - For providers performing Mohs surgery, oversees operations of the Mohs laboratory and laboratory staff to ensure all policies and procedures are appropriate. Academic/Teaching/Training: (15% of time) 1. Provides clinical supervision to dermatology residents and other trainees in the dermatology clinic. Program Evaluation/ Research/ (5% time) 1. Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance process. 2. Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system as appropriate. 3. Presents outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings when possible. 4. Assists in preparation of clinic SOPs, RFP's and grant proposals, as assigned. Other Significant Responsibilities (5% time) 1. Serves on Medical Center or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces as assigned. 2. Represents Section Dermatology on decision-making committees at the Medical Center or Healthcare System as assigned. 3.
