Job Summary The Director HVC Inpatient Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and Nursing is a highly visible position within UCSF Health. Reporting to the Executive Director of Heart and Vascular Services, this position directly or indirectly manages the inpatient nurses and APPs caring for patients on HVC services including:
Cardiology
Cardiac intensive care
Cardiac Surgery
Advanced Heart Failure, including heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support
Cardiac non-invasive testing (ie. stress testing)
The Director of HVC Inpatient APP and Nursing will be responsible for hiring, onboarding and managing inpatient HVC nurses and APPs. The director will ensure all nurses and APPs maintain appropriate competencies and credentials and use best practices when caring for HVC patients. Utilizing Lean methodology. The director will be responsible for assessing workflows to optimize productivity and satisfaction. This director will ensure ongoing access to education for the clinical team to maintain updated clinical practices.
This Director of Inpatient HVC Nursing will work with the HVC quality program to encourage and aid in participation of QA/QI projects to maintain a high level of clinical care for HVC inpatients. This position collaborates with Administrative Directors, Medical Directors, Surgical Directors, and the Executive Director for Heart and Vascular Services to advance quality strategies, ensure a positive professional work environment, facilitate timeliness of services, and enhance patient and staff satisfaction. The Director oversees all aspects of the provision of clinical services including the maintenance of safety and technical/clinical performance, human resources, quality, standards of care, practice guidelines, service delivery and patient and customer satisfaction. This position assists with the development and implementation of new programs, policies, and patient care service standards. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.
Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
The UCSF Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) is an integrated service line across UCSF Health that includes Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Heart Transplant as its core services. The HVC administrative structure oversees key elements of inpatient, ambulatory, diagnostic, and procedural services, noninvasive cardiac and vascular testing, and all outpatient clinics where HVC providers see patients.
The HVC structure allows close collaboration on strategy and program development across the medical and surgical practices. Programs of distinction include TAVR and structural interventions, advanced heart failure, including mechanical circulatory support and heart transplant, adult congenital heart disease, center for limb preservation, minimally invasive cardiac surgery/valve surgery, complex aortic disease, pulmonary hypertension among others.
The multi-specialty HVC clinic on Parnassus campus provides a patient-centered, collaborative care and houses many of the specialized programs. UCSF's HVC offers the latest in diagnostic technology for the San Francisco Bay Area region, including fully accredited echocardiography and vascular laboratories. Cardiology procedures include EKG, Stress Testing, Holter monitors, and long-term ECG monitoring. The UCSF vascular laboratory is an accredited IAC unit that provides the full scope of vascular ultrasound exams across several locations. HVC houses a cardiovascular quality measurement and improvement program which is coordinated by the HVC Quality and Value Council. Quality initiatives across the diverse HVC clinical settings are conducted within a common structure aligned with UCSF Health's True North Pillars. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Nursing required
Master's Degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse in the State of California
Nurse Practitioner in the State of California
Clinical experience with heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support patients
Clinical experience caring for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery patients
Clinical ICU experience
Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services
Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines
Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with union employees and practices
Doctorate in Nursing Practice
