Clinical Nurse Specialist - Women's Health (Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Special Care Nursery)
Job Summary
This role functions in the Women's Health setting as a leader, clinical expert, researcher, educator, and consultant, specifically focusing on Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Special Care Nursery. This position will support inpatient Women's units at both Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital. This position is a weekday-only job - no weekends, no holidays, and no call.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Advances the practice of nursing by implementing innovative alternative solutions that address complex system problems and/or patient care issues
Serves as a clinical expert in the delivery of patient care within Women's Health.
Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
Integrates research into the clinical environment through the implementation of evidence-based practice.
Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational programs for patients and their families, staff, and the community, with a focus on Women's Health.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, acts as a change agent to develop system performance standards to improve patient outcomes in obstetrics.
Coordinates with the nursing staff to identify patient care problems, implement approaches to these problems, and evaluate the effectiveness of the approaches.
Performs clinical evaluations and makes clinical judgments based on a synthesis of concepts, principles, models, and theories to solve complex problems in Women's Health.
Serves as a consultant in a nursing specialty area for patients, nurses, and other health team members throughout Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital and community agencies.
Participates in departmental and hospital committees and meetings to facilitate improvement of patient care and development of goals, philosophies, and objectives for a specialized patient population.
Maintains liaison with faculty members of schools of nursing to arrange and facilitate clinical experience for nursing students; communicates with faculty members concerning students' needs and progress.
Coordinates the development and implementation of an educational program designed to convey specialized knowledge and skills to nursing personnel.
Coordinates plans for the professional development of the nursing staff assigned to a specialty unit area and serves as a practitioner of specialized patient care. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
MSN required
Experience
3 years of nursing experience. Specific experience in high-risk and low-risk obstetrics and neonatal care preferred.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS) is required.
