Description Stony Brook Medicine's Palliative Medicine Section seeks a Board Certified or Board Eligible Palliative Medicine physician to join a very experienced and valued inpatient consultation service at Stony Book University Hospital. The ideal candidate should be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Palliative Medicine and have strong interest in academic medicine as well as delivering hospital-based patient care.
Our mature and experienced Palliative Care Team cares for a diverse patient population with broad disease pathology and complex needs at every stage of their disease trajectory. This is an exciting time to join our growing and very dynamic interdisciplinary team, consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurse coordinator, chaplain, HPM fellows, and volunteers. Our new ACGME accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship creates additional opportunity for involvement in curricula development and leadership. Furthermore, the physician will have ample opportunity to teach trainees of all levels and contribute to educational programs throughout Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook School of Medicine, participate in research and quality improvement projects, and expand to the outpatient setting. The Palliative Medicine Section at Stony Brook University Hospital resides in the Department Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology, which allows for extensive collaboration with our Hematology & Oncology colleagues. Stony Brook University Hospital has been awarded Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Palliative Care and has been nationally recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: MD, DO (or foreign equivalent). Board certified/eligible in Palliative medicine. Strong clinical background to assume patient care, teach fellows and medical students.
Preferred Qualifications: Fellowship trained and Board Certified Palliative Medicine physician with interest in palliative care education and research. At least one year of inpatient palliative care consultation experience.
