Job Description
SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, compounds and dispenses medications per physician's order; ensures the accuracy and appropriateness of prescribed medications and provides therapeutic intervention. Supervises and provides instruction to Pharmacy Technicians. Patients served include Neonate thru AdultGeriatric. SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITY: This position has supervisory responsibility over Technicians and volunteers
CONDITIONS: The new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be terminated.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position, the candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D. degree. One year hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations required.
- Able to demonstrate age-specific competency in knowledge, skills and abilities for the appropriate patient care populations served by pharmacy personnel.
- The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform mathematical calculations required for preparing medication dosages and calculation renewal function required.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to make independent judgments regarding professional and clinical issues required. Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and meet established deadlines required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Currently licensed as a registered Pharmacist in the State of Maryland required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works in a clean, well-lighted, confined environment. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. approximately 35% of the time; requires pushing and pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. approximately 35% of the time. Requires standing and sitting approximately 60% of the time; requires walking approximately 40% of the time; occasional ascending/descending stairs. Requires occasional bending and reaching. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate equipment and dispense medications. Potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
