Program Overview: Our Nurse Technician Program is designed to provide nursing students with practical experience under the guidance of registered nurses. This program fosters immersion in Akron Children???s culture and aims to inspire participants to pursue RN positions upon graduation.
Unit Overview:The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides advanced critical care for pediatric patients with life-threatening conditions. The unit cares for a wide variety of cases, from post-surgical recovery to complex medical diagnoses. Known for its high-intensity environment, the PICU offers an incredibly rewarding experience for nurses dedicated to delivering top-tier care to critically ill children ages days ??? 26 years old.
Summer Orientation Details
Start Dates:??May and June 2025
Commitment:
Complete general nursing orientation and role-specific training/classes, which may require full-time, day-shift hours.
Work part-time to full-time hours alongside your preceptor, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours/week during the program.
Work PRN during school semesters and breaks with flexible scheduling options.
Be immersed in the patient population and diagnoses specific to your practice setting while learning nurse technician roles and responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities: As a Student Nurse Technician, you will:
Complete vital signs.
Support activities of daily living (ADLs).
Serve as a patient care companion, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Perform technical skills such as obtaining blood sugars, removing peripheral IVs and indwelling catheters, performing 12-lead EKGs, and more.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or associate registered nursing degree program.
Must have completed at least one clinical rotation.

Summary:
The Nurse Technician assists in delivering individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Assists in patient/family education capabilities and under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Responsibilities: 1.Assists in delivering individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
2.Assists in patient/family education capabilities and under the direction of a licensed nurse.
3.Contributes to the assessment of individual patient care.
4.Contributes to the delivery of patient care.
5.Participates in the educational efforts of the department and the nursing unit.
6.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age and developmental status.
7.Other duties as required.
Other information: Technical Expertise 1.Experience in one clinical rotation demonstrating the basic skills course in the RN program is required.
2.Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
3.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience 1.Education: Must currently be enrolled in a baccalaureate accredited registered nursing program. If graduated from the RN program, must be eligible to take boards or awaiting board results for a period of no more than three months.
2.Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required. ???If assigned to general care units, PEARS is required. ???If assigned to neonatal units, NRP is required.
3. Years of relevant experience: 0 is required, some health care experience is preferred
