Engineering Director

Responsibilities:                     

Staff Management

• Effectively manages departmental personnel in order to maintain fairness and equity and foster individual development, team work, and morale.
• Objectively evaluates employee performance and competencies and provides constructive feedback.
• Conducts monthly staff meetings that incorporate the use of safety and technical training sessions, presenting material in a manner that fosters understanding and willingness to learn by the participants.

Operations Management

• Effectively administers program for maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well as procurement, generation, and distribution of utilities.
• Effectively administers Building Automated Systems (BAS) for the organization to effectively and efficiently manage the environment and energy consumption.
• Ensures that all required documentation is properly completed, maintained, and archived to ensure compliance with all Joint Commission standards including Equipment Management, Utility Management, Security Management, Hazardous Materials and Wastes Management, Fire Safety Management, and Life Safety.
• Effectively communicates affected departments on the status and progress of related projects in terms of budget, schedule, and operational impact.
• Maintains operations and projects within approved budget and established time frames.
• Plans and recommends the development of physical facilities. Reviews and recommends approval of plans for construction and infrastructure upgrades. Advises on structural changes and additions or modifications to buildings. Acts as liaison with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and materials and equipment suppliers. Approves contracted work.
• Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Facilities Engineering practices and programs.

• Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.

Departmental Leader

• Serves at the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Clinical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Building Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Fleet Management, infrastructure planning and development, utilities management, life safety requirements, and provides Matrix Management leadership for Engineering Services across all Archbold Medical Center facilities.
• Incorporates s’s vision, missions and values in goals and programs within Facilities Engineering.
• Initiates, monitors and enforces regulatory requirements
• Holds self and others accountable to policy, standards and commitments and provides timely follow through on questions and concerns.
• Ensures development of Facilities Engineering initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and family centered care.
• Actively listens to staff ideas and concerns, assesses others communication styles and adapts to them.
• Effectively facilitates meetings at Facilities Engineering and organizational level.
• Creates bi-directional systems that effectively communicate information and data, utilizing multiple methods.
• Demonstrates empathy and concern while ensuring Facilities Engineering goals are met.
• Manages the complex interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to assure collaboration and effective/efficient operations within Facilities Engineering.
• Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinion, recognizes differences and incorporates into process and services.
• Exhibits awareness of personal attitudes and beliefs, recognizing its effect on response to others.

Financial Manager

• Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial outcomes, engaging staff in the process.
• Monitors and analyzes financial data and utilizes for decisions regarding FTE’s, staffing and operational budget.
• Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets.
• Directs and provides guidance to managers to effectively allocate resources based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals and objectives.
• Articulates to staff the budget and the context within the organizational financials. Administrative Leader.
• Organizes and prioritizes time and resources to manage efficiency. Appropriately delegates.

 Qualifications:                          

15+ years’ experience in a Healthcare System setting required in a leadership role. Knowledge of Joint Commission readiness, engineering/maintenance, construction/project management, clinical engineering and energy management       

BS in Engineering or Physics, required

Certified Energy Manager (CEM), desired

Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), desired
