General Description of the Job Class The Cloud Engineer is a strategic thinker and a principal technologist in various domains such as cloud-based infrastructure and services. The Cloud Engineer will drive technical execution on projects and services, implement designs for on premise and cloud native services, troubleshoot complex issues related to cloud-based services, and collaborate with customers, service delivery, and service operations teams to bring the most efficient, practical, and maintainable solutions. Duke Health is a complex environment, and we are looking for a strategic thinker with a highly technical background to facilitate a digital technology transformation at Duke. You will be engaging customers - doctors, nurses, other caregivers, researchers, professors, and academic leaders, as well as administration - to help understand needs and develop comprehensive strategies and solutions making a difference in the lives of our patient population. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level at a minimum Level 1 - Assist in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of cloud resources. - Assist in defining the system components, services, technologies, and design required to implement a solution that represents an intersection of elements from the Business and Technology architecture domains and addresses a specific business opportunity or problem. - Provide tier II support for cloud platform related issues and troubleshoot problems as they arise. - Respond to service requests and incident tickets related to cloud platform services. - Help execute multi-offering solutions to customers, covering a wide variety of product spaces. These include on premises and multiple public cloud environments. - Maintain scripts for automating cloud infrastructure tasks using tools like PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform, or ARM templates. - Assist in the application of security best practices and policies. - Test and verify the effectiveness of backup and recovery plans. - Assist in configuring cloud monitoring solutions - Document support procedures and troubleshooting steps. - Develop solid working relationships with colleagues, customers, and across project teams to effectively achieve functional/project goals. - Build strong working relationships with members of his/her team and those within other relevant teams, departments, or disciplines. - Maintain a broad and deep understanding of multiple technologies, reference architectures, and business applications. Level 2 - In addition to the duties described for Level 1, Level 2 personnel will, at a minimum: - Assist initiatives to develop and document more efficient automated processes through technologies like Infrastructure as Code to reduce time, cost, manual intervention, and complexity of service delivery. - Effectively relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. - Configure monitoring and manage virtual machines, storage accounts, and network configurations. - Write scripts for automating cloud infrastructure tasks using tools like PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform, or ARM templates. - Implement and monitor security measures to ensure the safety and compliance of cloud environments. - Assist backup and recovery solutions standards for cloud-based resources. - Maintain standards for documentation for cloud-based implementations. - Assist in audits and compliance checks for cloud platform services.
Level 3 - In addition to the duties described for Level 1 &2, Level 3 personnel will, at a minimum: - Lead initiatives to develop and document more efficient automated processes through technologies like Infrastructure as Code to reduce time, cost, manual intervention, and complexity of service delivery. - Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and articulate the business value of a given technical solution building collaborative strength across teams. - Oversee and implement monitoring configurations for virtual machines, storage accounts, and network configurations. - Develop framework for enterprise integration of scripts for automating cloud infrastructure tasks using tools like PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform, or ARM templates. - Develop frameworks for Implementing and monitoring security measures to ensure the safety and compliance of cloud environments. - Consult and build backup and recovery solutions standards for cloud-based resources. - Develop and maintain technical standards for documentation for cloud-based implementations. - Consult and build automated audits and compliance checks for cloud platform services.

Required Qualifications at this Level Education / Experience: Level 1 Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of progressive experience in a combination of Infrastructure compute, storage, network services and architecture disciplines.
