Are you a dedicated healthcare professional with a passion for serving those who served our nation? VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief of Staff (COS)/Chief Medical Officer to lead our team in providing exceptional care to our Veterans.
About us
VAPAHCS is part of VA Sierra Pacific Network, which serves Veterans in northern and central California, Nevada, Hawaii, the Philippines, and U.S. Territories in the Pacific Basin. VAPAHCS consists of three inpatient facilities located in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, in addition to four Community Based Outpatient Clinics, in San Jose, Capitola, Monterey, and Fremont. VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Primary affiliation is with the Stanford University School of Medicine.
VAPAHCS operates one of the largest integrated health care systems in VA in terms of specialized programs, research, and graduate medical education (GME). Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, tertiary, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine?and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.?VAPAHCS operates over 700 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary - all to serve more than 67,000 enrolled Veterans.
The Chief of Staff is part of a 10-person executive leadership team and is responsible for providing administrative leadership and medical guidance to the medical and clinical care staff with an emphasis on patient safety and promotion of high-quality health care for Veterans. As a physician executive, the COS is actively involved in VAPAHCS’ management of resources, strategic planning, staff satisfaction, environment of care and improving organizational effectiveness and performance.

Strong commitment to Veteran care
Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting
Ability to collaborate effectively with academic partners
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Basic Requirements:
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Expected Salary Range: From $330K – 390K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials, and experience); The VA offers Physicians and all employees industry leading full benefits and features package to support high quality professional practice and favorable work-life-family balance.
