OB/GYN Hospitalist - Academic Position
Overview: The Department of OB-GYN at Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC) is recruiting a skilled OB-GYN Hospitalist physician interested in resident and fellow education to join our team. We seek candidates whose clinical experience, dedication to teaching, interest in research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to excellence and health equity. The position offers full-scope practice in a multidisciplinary collaborative team with opportunities for leadership roles and professional development related to resident and fellow education including the newly established OB/GYN hospitalist fellowship. Clinical responsibilities include acting as the attending physician or as an independent provider covering Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Obstetric Emergency Department, gynecology consults, and urgent/emergent gynecology procedures. Clinical schedules can be as flexible or as set as desired with emphasis on night coverage.
About the OB/GYN department: DHMC is a safety net teaching hospital located in the heart of Denver. It is a 525 -bed hospital with Trauma 1 level designation and level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The department of OB/GYN provides full scope obstetric and gynecologic care through a collaborative integrated service model working with OB/GYN physicians, subspecialists, certified nurse midwives, and Family Medicine physicians. We deliver approximately 4,000 patients per year, which is nearly a half of all births in the city of Denver. The GYN service provides comprehensive care performing over 1,300 inpatient and outpatient surgeries per year. We serve a diverse patient population where most of our patients identify as Hispanic/Latina, and our patients speak over 23 different languages.
Schedule and clinical responsibilities: A full-time physician will have a monthly schedule of 12-14 clinical shifts where a shift lasts 10 hours (7am - 5pm) or 14 hours (5pm - 7am). The shifts are a mix of day and night shifts with emphasis on night shift coverage. Scheduling can be as flexible or set, other factors permitting, as desired. For example, shift scheduling can include 24-hour shifts and flexible scheduling such as 3 inpatient night shifts per week, or 2 inpatient night shifts and 1 daytime weekend shift.
This physician will share responsibility with the on-call OB/GYN attending in assisting with concurrent deliveries, obstetrical emergencies, and patient care. Clinical opportunities include Labor and Delivery, Postpartum care, emergent gynecologic surgery, gynecologic consults, and comprehensive clinical care in our Obstetrical ED (triage). Responsibilities will include labor and delivery management, supervision of resident physicians, CNMs, FM providers, medical students, and other learners, and hands-on clinical care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Gynecology, and Obstetrical ED. This physician will be working in a busy, acute care environment where they are a member of a multidisciplinary collaborative team with the support of another OB/GYN attending physician. This physician should enjoy working directly with patients, resident physicians, and other learners. This physician should be in support of the hospital and department?s mission to provide high quality evidence-based patient care.
