Nestled among the hills of Bath County in Hot Springs, VA, Bath Community Hospital (BCH), is a 25-bed, not-for-profit, critical access hospital and the only independent critical access hospital in the state. Serving communities throughout Bath and Alleghany Counties, the hospital is the only full-service rural hospital within a 25-mile area and, as a designated critical access hospital, BCH plays a crucial role in a rural area where healthcare access can often be limited. BCH offers a variety of services including 24/7 emergency care; general surgery; inpatient care; swing bed certified; diagnostic services; clinical laboratory and blood bank; therapy services; behavioral health; and primary and preventive health services for patients of all ages at three clinic locations. The hospital reports over 350 admissions; over 3500 ER visits, and net operating revenue of $17.7M.
The hospital’s accolades in recent years reflect its dedication to patient care and clinical excellence. BCH’s Emergency Department received the Guardian of Excellence Award, placing it in the top 5% of all 40,000 hospitals assessed by Press Ganey, and the hospital boasts an impressive average patient satisfaction score of 4.8 out of 5.
Of note is that Bath Community Hospital is one of the named Virginia beneficiaries of the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation and receives a generous annual distribution from the foundation.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO of Bath Community Hospital will be responsible for strategic leadership and direction; the stewardship of resources in order to ensure achievement of the hospital’s mission and vision; the pursuit of patient-centered care, clinical excellence, quality outcomes, and patient safety in partnership with physicians; and the delivery of healthcare services to the community.
Select Qualifications and Experience:
Demonstrated track record of experience in a senior level role within a rural healthcare market; knowledge of and experience in a Critical Access Hospital setting is strongly preferred.
Master’s Degree in healthcare, business administration, or related field. Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) certification is preferred.
Strong visioning and strategic skills, accompanied by a decisive, collaborative, and results-oriented leadership style.
A commitment to community leadership and appreciation of the importance of advocacy on behalf of Bath Community Hospital.
Demonstrated business and entrepreneurial skills, accompanied by a track record in guiding an organization to proactively respond to changes in the marketplace.
A leader who strategically, politically, instinctively, and operationally understands physicians’ concerns and issues; a demonstrated track record in developing creative physician alignment strategies.
Ability to interact effectively with a strong and engaged Board; experience reporting to a fiduciary board will be seen favorably.
Highly credible and clinically astute communication skills; a relational and interactive leader who recognizes the importance of building consensus and providing leadership on the basis of trust, influence, collaboration, respect, and listening skills.
