DescriptionReporting to the Financial Service Supervisor 1, the Financial Services Analyst 3 will serve as the lead Analyst of Financial/ Billing Operations for Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM). The Analyst will provide high-level analyses, financial management, and administrative support for the Finance Team and support the entire department. The Analyst will serve as the back-up for the Finance Service Supervisor 1 in their absence to lead the team in its operations. The Analyst will be responsible for all aspects of revenue entries, NPEAR processing, ledger reconciliation, compiling financial reports and provide high-level analyses of administrative and financial aspects.
The Analyst is responsible for reconciling P-card transactions, verifying recharge IDs in the financial system, and submitting monthly fiscal and operational reports to the CAO and Finance Supervisor. This role involves tracking expenses and income from various funds, as well as analyzing and monitoring financial activity related to vivarium general funds and income accounts. Additionally, the Analyst prepares statistical financial reports based on activities across multiple accounts, including medical, vivarium, income accounts, and campus veterinary general funds. Serving as the Department Backup-DSA for all DLAM employees, the Analyst also reviews departmental purchases within the Post Authorization Notifications (PAN) system to ensure compliance and accuracy.
The Financial Services Analyst will meet on a regular basis with the Finance Supervisor and CAO/CFO but operate independently on a daily basis.
Annual Salary Range: $68,800.00 - 141,000.00
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, and prepare or reconcile financial reports, ledgers, and accounting journals.
Strong writing skills to prepare correspondences, memos, forms and reports with speed and accuracy.
Working knowledge of University administrative organization, policies, procedures, and practices.
Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to compose concise statistical analytical reports, and professional business correspondence using Excel and Word for Windows.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with DLAM staff as well as other department members.
Skill in performing various accounting transactions such as debiting, crediting, reconciling expenses, preparing transfer of payroll and non-payroll expenses.
Strong knowledge of MS Office including Word and Excel, QDB, database and e-mail systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting practices, in particular the accounting policies and procedures of the University of California.
Skill in tracking and budgeting funds and initiating/submitting timely and accurate financial transactions; ability to assemble, analyze, interpret and present financial or procedural data clearly and concisely.
Skills in perceiving and defining cause and effect relationships between expenditure rates and budgetary projections.
Demonstrated knowledge of academic values, priorities and expectations; working experience in a large university culture.
Demonstrated ability to analyze information, practices, or procedures to define problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications, make recommendations, and initiate corrective actions.
Experience managing an office and group processes in an academic environment.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to review detailed work for critical inaccuracies.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information regarding student and faculty with tact and discretion.
Demonstrated ability in multi-million dollar contract and grants pre and post award management.
Ability to work with complex spreadsheets and create pivot tables

Demonstrated ability to process payroll (UC Path) for following UCLA policies and procedures.
