Role Overview:
An ideal candidate is an individual with biological laboratory research expertise and deep commitment to discovery, learning, and problem solving. Interest and knowledge of breeding of genetically engineered mice, mouse husbandry and procedures such as autopsy and xenografting, mammalian tissue culture and procedures such as lentivirus transduction, and analytical experiments in molecular and cell biology such as genetic cloning, immunoassays, and molecular purifications are preferred.
Past research technicians have continued as research staff scientists, PhD, MD, and MD-PhD students, including authored publications and contributions to diverse research projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, reagents, chemicals, and other essential supplies.
- Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized procedures, such as mammalian tissue culture lentivirus transduction, genetic cloning, immunoassays and molecular purifications, and experiments, which may be moderate to complex with increasing independence.
- Animal Handling: Breed and handle genetically engineered mice, perform autopsy and xenografting.
- Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and perform basic analyses using mathematical and statistical modeling. Help to prepare presentations and written articles for publication.
- Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in natural sciences.
- Proven biological laboratory skills and the ability to handle diverse tasks in a research setting.
- Ability to commit for 2 years.
Core Skills:
- Communication: Ability to compose written correspondence and to present information in a clear, concise manner.
- Information Management: Ability to communicate, explain, interpret, share and present information to employees, management and clinical staff, as well as appropriate external contacts.
- Time Management: Ability to set priorities among several tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
- Administrative: Ability to organize and maintain all research information for assigned project and to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures within MSK and from external/sponsoring agencies.
- Computer: Ability to use a computer and software such as data management, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics applications. Strong familiarity with coding is preferred.

- Schedule: Onsite, 37.5 hours per week
