We are a high-volume office, so it is imperative that you communicate effectively, possess strong problem-solving skills and work efficiently under pressure.
Responsibilities
Carry out periodontal patient evaluations, guiding patients through their experience at WisNova
Present yourself and the company in a professional manner; maintain a clean, organized and welcoming operatory
Assist patients with the registration process using the tablets; review their medical, social and oral health history In their words, document the patient's chief complaint and any other relevant information (concerns, level of motivation, reason(s) for not choosing to proceed with treatment, etc.)
Ensure patients are comfortable before their exam, introduce the Periodontist and make sure patients are familiar with the care team that will be collaborating for their unique situation
Accommodate, advocate for and educate patients whenever appropriate; encourage patients to take an active role in their periodontal maintenance or course of treatment
Ensure patients understand the periodontal teams' recommendations and the corresponding next steps
Assist patients with scheduling when appropriate
Play an integral role to the Periodontal care team; support the Periodontist (and Endodontist) working alongside you
Work several days ahead, ensuring appointments are scheduled appropriately and that the necessary correspondence (imaging and referral) is uploaded to patient chart
Obtain any necessary imaging and be able to explain to patients why we may require a CBCT, for example
Present patients to the Periodontist in a clear and concise manner
Report any applicable Endodontic findings and recommendations for dual evaluations
Document the Periodontist's radiographic and clinical findings, diagnoses and recommendations in the clinical note
Complete evaluation letters to send to referring offices
Follow through on any outstanding items, especially as it pertains to referring office communication, treatment planning, patient questions, coordination of care, etc.
Enter detailed notes whenever speaking to or emailing with a patient, their referring office or other members of your team about a patient's care
Provide therapeutic care to control periodontal disease
Conduct detailed, full-mouth periodontal charting
Identify conditions including, but limited to, gingivitis, caries, periodontal disease, oral cancer
Administer local anesthetic for patients receiving scaling and root planing
Remove plaque, tartar and any staining on the tooth surface as well as sub gingivally
Reinforce home care
Complete treatment letters to send to referring offices
Work as a team and communicate effectively at all levels
Clean and set-up operatories, sterilize instruments and monitor supplies; notify the proper individuals of supply and/or equipment needs
Set your patients and teammates up for success (for example, the front desk will be relying on your documentation when a patient calls months after their evaluation to schedule treatment; it is imperative to communicate all relevant information in the clinical notes)
Work with all departments (Endodontics, front desk, billing, etc.) to ensure proper “handshakes” across all systems and protocols
Build referring office relationships; be a resource for our dental community
Act as an extension of our referring offices' care; identify and address their concerns, treat their patients with the utmost respect, fulfill their requests and provide clear, concise and timely correspondence back to them
Act as a liaison when needed, coordinate communication between WisNova providers and referring doctors when necessary
Have excellent phone and email etiquette, get to know our referring offices and their staff whenever time allows
Work with management to coordinate a hygiene study club
