The Department of Pathology and the UCSF Genomics and Genetics Laboratories at the University of California, San Francisco seek outstanding candidates for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical (X) series to support growth in our CLIA/CAP accredited molecular genetic pathology laboratory. The candidate will also be Assistant or Associate Director of the laboratory based on their experience.
Candidates must have an MD (or MD equivalent) and/or PhD degree with ABP Board Certification/Eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology, or ABMGG Board Certification/Eligibility in Molecular Genetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics by the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. Experience in inherited disease genomics and/or cancer genomics, in particular next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms, and hands-on experience with molecular analyses in a clinical or experimental setting are required. The focus of this position will be on the growth of our robust germline testing, including genome sequencing, hereditary cancer panel testing, and pharmacogenomics. In addition to germline NGS testing, the faculty member will participate in somatic testing, and the faculty member will collaborate in the development and validation of new tests. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will work closely with clinicians, technical staff, lab administration, and pathologists to address the molecular testing needs of our adult and pediatric patients.
The candidates will attend the Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory. Clinical responsibilities include next-generation sequencing, PCR-based testing, FISH testing, and participation at interdisciplinary molecular board meetings. The Department runs accredited Molecular Genetic Pathology and Laboratory Genetics & Genomics Fellowship programs, in addition to the Anatomic Pathology residency program, and teaching responsibilities include training of fellows, residents and students in aspects related to molecular pathology and cancer genetics. The position offers extensive opportunities for clinical and translational research, and the successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in translational research.
