Under minimal supervision, manages a WIC Clinic within Denver Health's Community Health Services (CHS). Directly supervises professional and paraprofessional staff. Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the clinic including coordination of the activities of all staff. Ensures that WIC Program and Denver Health policies are followed. Responsible for quality assurance and implementing policy/program changes. Ensures appropriate nutritional care is provided and delivers direct client services as needed. Participates in program planning, evaluation, and other program-wide responsibilities with the WIC Program Manager.
Essential Functions:
Leadership ? Supervises professional and paraprofessional staff ? Sets behavior and performance expectations ? Evaluates performance of direct reports through observations, chart reviews, and productivity reports ? Provides ongoing coaching and performance feedback and conducts a formal annual appraisal ? Addresses performance or behavior concerns in a timely fashion ? Manages operations of WIC clinic through ensuring adequate staffing, offering guidance and expertise to staff, and assisting with appointments and clerical duties depending on clinic demands ? Assures that WIC participant complaints are mediated and resolved in a timely and appropriate manner ? Recruits, screens, interviews, orients, and trains new staff ? Prepares and moderates clinic meetings and presents at all-staff meetings ? Oversees partner grant activities, staff, and deliverables ? Precepts dietetic interns (50%)
Client Interaction ? Assesses nutrition status of WIC participants based on anthropometric, laboratory, and verbally reported data ? Counsels WIC participants on high nutrition risk factors as determined by federal WIC policies and procedures ? Consults with healthcare providers on participant nutritional needs or requests for specialty formulas and nutritional supplements ? Considers income, cultural and religious food patterns, home facilities, education level, and psychosocial factors when providing patient-centered nutrition care ? Obtains advanced training in lactation and provides prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding education and support (50%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Required
Work Experience:
1-3 years Typically, 1-2 years of experience supervising staff Required and
1-3 years one year of WIC experience Required and
Licenses:
CLC-Certified Lactation Counselor - ALPP - Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice Required and
Ability to supervise paraprofessional and professional staff and complete performance evaluations.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Knowledge of human nutrition in health and disease and its application to public health practices.
Knowledge of nutrition needs for infants and children and women during prenatal, postpartum, and breastfeeding stages.
Effective counseling and education skills.
Prefer that the candidate be bilingual (English/Spanish).
