DescriptionUnder the direction of the UCLA Head Start Executive Director, the Assistant Director provides supervision to a group of professional and technical employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, oversight of daily program operations, and staff supervision. The Assistant Director exercises judgement to ensure program goals and objectives are met. They also assist in preparing annual budgets, refunding applications, and grants. They will assess the efficiency and effectiveness of program services and recommend actions for performance improvement.
The Assistant director leads the team in program delivery of all program components, prepares data reports, and manages the scheduling of staff and professional development trainings including the development of professional development plans. They will be responsible for hiring and training of new staff, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance to University, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and state, federal, and local laws as it pertains to Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The Assistant Director will represent the program in professional committees.
Annual Salary Range: $83,800.00 - 179.400.00
QualificationsRequired:
Required to hold a valid California driver’s license and have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures. Must also have available transportation.
Minimum B.A. degree in health-related area and or / Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field (must include core child development units) or equivalent experience and/or training
Fingerprint screening, Criminal Record and Child Abuse Index Clearance
Per funding agency requirements, all Early Head Start staff must complete background checks at least every five years that includes, sex offender registry check, State or FBI criminal history check, including fingerprint check, child abuse. and neglect state registry check if available in the state of California and annual health physical.
Family Development Credential Training
Three (3) years teaching and/or home visiting experience with an emphasis on infants and toddlers.
Experience and knowledge in supervision techniques (e.g., reflective supervision).
Fluency and proficiency in English
Knowledge of management of children’s programs
Completion and submission of required personnel forms prior to employment. Ability to communicate effectively with families, Early Head Start staff, community resource agencies, consultants and volunteers to support families in locating and accessing appropriate community services as needed.
Ability to provide education, training opportunities, and promote positive relationship building for all enrolled pregnant women, families and their infants and toddlers.
Ability to conduct on-site staff training if needed.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in early childhood education
Knowledge of program philosophy, goals, principles, objectives and requirements; Early Head Start policies and procedures; understanding of child development principles with an emphasis on infant/toddler developmental stages and nurturing concepts; prenatal development and appropriate health care during pregnancy; family dynamics, cultural beliefs; advocacy and intervention concepts; crisis management, community resources and referral; processes and functions of social service agencies.
