The Trauma Clinical Coordinator RN, under direction of the Manager Trauma Programs, will assist with coordination of care for trauma patients, implementation of teaching, and monitoring of quality standards through use of the data registry. This role will collaborate with physicians, consultants and multi-disciplinary trauma team members to assure quality patient outcomes across the continuum of care. The Trauma Clinical Coordinator will support the goals of the trauma program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Facilitates and assists with care of trauma patients in the Emergency Department while maintaining trauma practice management guidelines and adhering to hospital standards of care.
Participates in multidisciplinary trauma rounds and physician rounding to support patient care and identify quality issues.
Provides family, patient and staff education as needed while insuring understanding. Acts as a liaison to patients and their family.
Monitors trauma care during all phases to identify complications, deviation in standards of care, mortalities, and hospital-specific audit filters.
Identifies patients on the trauma service using the electronic health record (EHR), transfer log and activation log to assist with data extraction for the Trauma Registry.
Performs concurrent chart reviews and adheres to departmental deadlines for completion.
Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives. Participates in the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Assists with identification, creation and implementation of hospital education needs, and participates in Trauma educational courses (i.e., TNCC, ENPC, ATCN), preferably as an instructor.
Participates in state trauma committee programs such as the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) and GETAC, as requested.
Assists Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Physicians with the identification, development and presentation of research initiatives.

Advanced understanding of Trauma care terminology, and standards.
Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions.
Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to effectively use a variety of teaching methods.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide-range of constituencies.
Must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to understand, optimize and document complex processes.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least (3) three years in a relevant field
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification are required before or within 30 days of starting a new job.
Trauma Outcomes & Performance (TOPIC): TOPIC within 1 year of hire.
Emergency Nrs Pediatric (ENPC), Pedi Adv Life Support (PALS): PALS within 30 days or ENPC within 180 days of hire.
RN- Advanced Trauma Care (ATCN), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC): TNCC or ATCN within 180 days of hire.
