The MRI technologist is responsible for compassionate and appropriate patient care while performing MRI examinations under the direction of a physician to assist in the medical diagnosis or treatment of injury.
Scope
As an MRI Tech, you need to know how to: Access, manage and update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information System- Accurately access patient medical records- Input physicians orders appropriately to patients records- Review documentation for ongoing patient care- Communicate patient record with ancillary hospital services- Maintain patient confidentiality as outlined by privacy and HIPAA guidelines- Practice core competencies according to the ARRT Standards of Ethics- Educate, interview, screen and explain imaging and safety procedures to patients regarding the biological effects of radiation and/or magnetic field protection and safety prior to beginning any imaging procedure to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation- Position patient on imaging table and utilize immobilization devices as warranted for safety or to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body as requested by a Physician and following protocols developed by a Radiologist- Administer contrast media orally or in intravenous administration according to Radiologist and/or Pharmacy guidelines- Monitor patient during procedures either through direct contact, by the use of two-way voice communication or through control room window and/or closed circuit TV screen- Practice universal safety precautions, radiation protection techniques and magnetic field education to minimize exposure to patient, self and staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree or diploma from two-year College or technical school; or 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training, required- Current ARRT certification, required- Current Montana State Licensure or eligibility to obtain, required- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association, required- Additional certification, required within 18 months of hire
