Under the direction of the COO, the Director of Med Surg has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect inpatient care in the department. The director assures service development personnel management, and resource allocation and management controls in order to ensure consistent high-quality patient care in their department.
Identifies existing and potential problems and seek or implement appropriate solutions. Performs plan of care interventions. Documents patient care given. Provides nursing care through planning, organizing, and facilitating the nursing function for assigned patients.
Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions physician, patient, and families. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Demonstrates clinical competence in relevant area of nursing practice.
Demonstrates leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of others.
Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing service programs which assure quality nursing, and patient care programs consistent with the hospital mission. (i.e., JCAHO changes, CMS quality and safety parameters)
Assists with monitoring/maintaining unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety.
Qualifications
Minimum Education X Bachelors degree in Nursing X Required
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Licenses: Valid licensure in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Minimum Work Experience Five (5) years of hospital-based patient care experience as a Registered Nurse (RN). Two (2) years of charge/staff nursing experience required.
