Come work with a preeminent team of midwives at a world-renowned hospital with a commitment to evidence-based and patient-focused care! The Mayo Clinic Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship is a 12-month postgraduate program in the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Each year, the fellowship program will admit two certified nurse midwives.
Midwifery fellows can choose between two cohorts:
Entry to Practice: Focuses on new midwives, or midwives returning to practice. Provides clinical training, education sessions, journal club, leadership development, and ample mentorship opportunities.
Advanced Level: Focuses on midwifes who have at least three years of clinical experience and desiring additional skills in complex and high-risk obstetrics. Includes clinical training and mentorship, along with first assist and focused ultrasound training. The curriculum of this fellowship is flexible and can be tailored to individual areas of interest!
All fellows will receive outpatient and inpatient clinical obstetric and gynecologic experiences in Rochester, Minnesota, and two Mayo Clinic Health System sites in Eau Claire, La Crosse, Mankato, or Red Wing. Entry-to-Practice fellows will train in three types of clinical practices – a regional community health system site, a regional health system hub site, and in the tertiary care setting in Rochester. Advanced Level fellows will focus their training with higher risk patients in Rochester and the regional health system hub sites.
The Nurse-Midwifery fellowship will incorporate education integral to interprofessional and collaborative practice. Curriculum will comprise learning opportunities focusing on the clinical, research, and educational shields of Mayo Clinic. The clinical component will include didactic education and mentored clinical rotations. Fellows will participate in regular education sessions, journal clubs, leadership development, and mentorship opportunities. All fellows will also be supported in the completion of a quality improvement or research project at a Mayo Clinic site.
The vision for the Certified Nurse Midwife Fellowship is to assist learners in strengthening physical assessment and critical-thinking skills, integrate individual patient needs into treatment plans, and further develop interprofessional communication and presentation skills.
