Its vibrant urban core offers diverse residential, retail and entertainment offerings while being located just three miles from the Urban Wilderness, a unique adventure playground for hikers, mountain bikers and trail runners. With 15 colleges and universities, it's no surprise that Knoxville was named one of College Football's Greatest College Towns by Sports Illustrated in August, 2019. Other âœbest ofâ lists for 2019 include: Top 50 Best Places to Live in the USA by U.S. News & World Report, Top 100 Best Places to Live in America by Livability.com, Least Expensive Place to Live in the 2018 Annual Average Cost of Living Index by the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) and The 7 Most Recession-Proof Cities in the U.S. by Livability.
