At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, therapists in the Department of Rehabilitation are a valued part of the care continuum and serve a significant role in making critical patient care decisions every day. Our therapists experience a close connection with their patients and families as well as collaborative interactions with each patient's physicians, nurses and other medical team professionals. A large department of approximately 100 employees, the department is structured in a programmatic approach, which places physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists working together with the same patient population. Therapy services are provided to a wide range of patient care areas, including medicine, surgery, orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary, oncology and the special care nursery. Role Purpose
The Rehab Clinical Specialist position is utilized for 25% patient care and 75% administrative works including being an expert in a specialized program area such as evidenced based practice, quality improvement and lean initiatives, information systems and research. This position liaisons between the bedside clinicians and the leadership team and is responsible for remaining the content expert for progressing the disciplines of physical, speech and occupational therapy in those areas (evidence based practice, quality improvement and lean initiatives, information systems and research).
Responsibilities
Acts as a resource person to facilitate problem solving and innovation within physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
Assists in planning, developing, and sustainment of staff and patient education for rehabilitation and trains staff on computerized systems.
Initiates treatment plan considering discharge needs, expected discharge functional status, and appropriate equipment and supplies.
Evaluates progress of care and modifies plan of care and goals as needed considering achievement of expected outcomes and effectiveness of therapies.
Leads or supports process and project development in the areas of evidence based clinical practice, research, lean initiatives, quality improvement, and/or technology systems within physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
