Duke University Health System - Patient Revenue Management Office (PRMO) seeks to hire a Business Process Consultant who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.
The Business Process Consultant (BPC) serves as the primary technical and analytical resource supporting revenue cycle processes, systems and workflow . The BPC is a subject matter expert in Epic (Maestro Care) and demonstrates a broad spectrum of operational expertise across multiple areas of the Revenue Cycle. The BPC supports the Revenue Cycle departments and operational leaders within the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO ) by identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and performance. The BPC has a system focus and troubleshoots Maestro Care through monitoring of dashboards and key metrics to pro-actively identify and trend issues. The BPC strategically supports operations by identifying opportunities to improve workflow and effectiveness through projects and innovative solutions to enhance automation, quality and efficiency through enhancement requests, report writing, analysis and business case development and data validation. The BPC works directly with Duke Health Technology Solutions (DHTS) to develop, implement and oversee implementations.
This position may have an opportunity to work remotely. All Duke University remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts: Arizona; California; Florida; Georgia; Hawaii; Illinois; Maryland; Massachusetts; Montana; New Jersey; New York; North Carolina; Pennsylvania; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia or Washington, DC.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:
Identification of System and/or Workflow Optimization Opportunities
Identify existing and future revenue cycle-based improvement opportunities which can be addressed via enhancements and automations within the Epic system and/or through implementation of innovative technology in the marketplace
Develop and document detailed technical specifications, design system enhancements, and build solutions within the Epic Resolute system and associated bolt-on systems to address outstanding business issues and improve PRM O operational performance
Evaluate available functionality in existing and upcoming Epic upgrades to determine which features would provide value for PRMO to implement. Summarize an d make recommendations about upgrade features to PRMO operational management and senior leadership.
Focus efforts on complex technical and system opportunities that span multiple operational departments
Lead PRMO discussions, evaluations, selections and prioritization of optimization opportunities, including the development of an ROI analysis to better understand and determine potential impact on overall PRMO performance
Work closely with PRMO leadership to understand operation al goals and challenges in order to identify opportunities for system optimizations/enhancements
Provide guidance to PRMO operational owners and DHTS Maestro Care staff on appropriate prioritization of system requests and allocation of resources
Research of Epic System Capabilities and Collaboration with other Health Care Systems
Serve as primary technical subject matter expert for Epic Resolute system capabilities in support of questions and requests from PRMO operational owners.
Develop and maintain thorough understanding of system functionality and capabilities of Epic Resolute revenue cycle suite, through ongoing training and Epic certification in multiple functionalities
Provide feedback to DHTS Maestro Care team and Epic staff about future system enhancements that will address PRMO operational revenue cycle business needs
Develop and maintain thorough understanding of how other health care providers are using Epic Resolute system to address revenue cycle-based business needs. Develop a network of contacts at peer organizations using Epic to act as a resource for information and sharing of system and operational best practices.
Act as a technical resource to PRMO operational management and staff on existing/future Epic system functionality, in support of the documentation of staff training, job aids, workflows, and internal controls.
System Issues Resolution
Serve as primary system troubleshooter to identify issues within Epic by reviewing and monitoring dashboards and key metrics
Investigate issues to determine systematic root cause and work with PRMO leadership to develop and implement remediation plans
Perform analytic al reviews of operational performance to identify recommendations an d change requests to improve system performance and operational efficiency
Lead research efforts related to questions and provide responses to include detailed information regarding current state and historical comparative data
System Testing, Implementation and Validation
Lead efforts to fully test system functionality associated with enhancements /updates, pulling in operational and IT staff as necessary to assist .
Testing is completed within a timely fashion to not delay implementation
Develop system testing programs, document test results, summarize and review outcomes , and obtain approvals as necessary from PRMO operational owners.
Work with PRMO leadership to fully implement system updates within operational departments, including documentation of new workflows, training to staff, and associated changes to system logic.
After system implementation, validate that changes are working as expected. Identify deficiencies in system or operational results, and follow through on mitigating strategies until resolved
Extensive knowledge of work flow and/or system design is required. Minimum of 7 years of experience with system design, process work flow design or business/systems consulting. Revenue cycle experience preferred. Extensive knowledge of analytical tools, business intelligence tools and statistical packages.
Proven experience with workflows and/or technology that support mid-Revenue Cycle (Hospital Coding, Professional Coding, Charge Entry, Clinical Documentation Integrity, Billing workflows, Denials management, etc.). Also, an understanding of third party systems to Epic that support these workflows (such as 3M, SSI, Availity, etc.)
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Lean or Six Sigma certification a plus but not required.
