JOB SUMMARY
Dir Advanced Practice Professional (APP) is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating operations and programs of the advanced practice providers at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), which include nursing practitioners, physician assistants, and other advanced provider clinicians in BSWH hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory care facilities. Plans and directs programs and activities which may include clinical practice guidance, clinical rotations, utilization, quality, productivity, performance standards, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and continuing education. Develops and establishes policies and procedures related to the APP practice and monitors policy implementation, communication, and compliance. Advises BSWH leadership, medical staff, departments, and operations in matters related to BSWH APP practice. Collaborates with clinical operations, physician leadership, and nursing leadership to drive improvement in the delivery of APP care and overall quality of patient care at BSWH. Identifies and implements best practice programs and processes and ensures compliance with all regulatory areas that impact APP clinical care. Serves as a resource for coordination between departments and disciplines across the BSWH system and within facilities. Directs the APP clinical practice, coordinates patient service delivery, educates and develops APP staff, and monitors APP work environment for BSWH. Partners closely with physician and senior leadership in the development of growth strategies, achievement of targets, and outcome improvement. Ensures APP services operate within budget and in accordance with performance standards and BSWH business objectives. May perform direct patient care for small portion of time (typically not to exceed 20%) with activities that are clinical in nature such as making rounds, assessing patients, and supervising APP staff.
A division Director translates and implements strategic plans and objectives for area of responsibility. Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives. Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have negative impact on the success of the area, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
1.Directs advanced practice provider (APP) programs for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH. 2.Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for the APP practice aligned to BSWH overall business objectives. 3.Directs APP utilization, credentialing standards, policies, procedures, quality assurance, continuing education, and other programs related to APP patient care. 4.Drives initiatives to improve and modernize the APP practice in support of population health approaches and models of care implemented by BSWH. 5.Leads and participates in APP council meetings, physician boards, and other workgroups acting as a primary resource regarding APP utilization and practice. 6.Partners closely with physicians, nursing, medical staff services, and other departments on APP credentialing, clinical rotations, staffing, and education. 7.Drives best practice programs and initiatives to improve APP procedures and processes. 8.Ensures compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements impacting APPs including Texas State Medical Board and Board of Nursing regulations for practice. 9.Directs and monitors medical coding, documentation, and billing processes related to APP care. 10.Practices collaboratively with physicians on APP activities (not to exceed 20% of time) obtaining medical and personal histories, performing physical exams, educating patients and families, and prioritizing and assessing patients.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
1.Bachelor's degree in nursing, clinical, or related field. Master's degree preferred. 2.5+ years of experience in APP practice management or related area. 3.1+ years of experience in a leadership role. 4.Graduate of accredited program as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Physician Assistant (PA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). 5.Current license as an Advanced Practice Professional in the state of Texas. 6.Knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations impacting APP providers. 7.Experience working in a large, matrixed health care system preferred. 8.Highly collaborative with strong mentoring skills. 9.Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. 10.Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
