JOB SUMMARY
The Retinal Angiographer is responsible for performing a variety of highly skilled and invasive procedures associated with the operation of a variety of specialized cameras and diagnostic instruments to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs a wide range of imaging services for all subspecialties including retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic as well as general imaging requests. Operates specialized equipment to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of diseases of the eye, including digital fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography, color fundus photography, external photography, optical coherence tomography, retinal thickness study, slit lamp and gonio photography. Utilizes specialized microscopes and cameras to take two dimensional and three dimensional photographs of external features, as well as anterior and posterior segments of the eye.
Obtains peripheral venous access with a butterfly or other winged short needle venous access device, injects contrast medium into vein of patient, and photographs fluorescent or cyanescent dye as it flows through retina or iris vessels to obtain angiogram of eye.
Monitors the patient gaze through imaging systems and cameras to ensure that patient complies with instructions to obtain optimal results.
Performs technical screening testing to include visual acuity measurement, color vision testing, lensometry, keratometry, topography, testing pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, automated and non automated perimetry, and ultrasonography. Utilizes Refractometry; Manifest Refraction and Retinoscopy to draft a preliminary glasses prescription.
Participates in clinical research. Performs visual acuity, refractometry, visual fields, OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography and electroretinography (ERG), depending on the protocol of the research project.
Opens and closes exam lanes daily ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected in an appropriate manner, battery powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, and lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
General understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.
Knowledge of standard photographic techniques, material processes and equipment.
Adequate understanding of ocular pathology to assist in the creation of patient case presentation for physician presentations.
Must be proficient in digital imaging systems, computer generated text slides and graphics, and audio and visual projection.
Position requires an appropriate degree of initiative and the flexibility to handle ongoing multiple tasks.
Knowledge of patient confidentiality rules in accordance with HIPPA.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
EXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
Cert Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Cert Ophtha Med Technologist (COMT), Cert Ophthalmic Tech (COT), Cert Retinal Angiographer (RA): Must have one of the following:
