LabCorp is currently seeking a Histotechnician to join their Histology team, located in RTP, NC! Begin your career alongside a highly trained staff with the latest technology. Our services are performed with the utmost care, expertise, integrity and respect for the patient.
In this position, the Histotechnician will be involved in the process of receipts of specimens from accessioning, description of specimens into permanent record including quantity, size, possible sectioning, inking, and grossing.
The schedule for this position will be:Monday-Friday 3:30 pm-12 am.10% shift differential offered for 2nd shift.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Full histology support for the RTP location. This includes embedding, microtomy and special stains on multiple specimen types.
Operate and maintain automated tissue processors, perform tissue embedding, operate and maintain tissue embedding units
Operate and maintain H&E stainers, special stains stainers and coverslipping units, perform manual coverslipping
Provide recut preparation for microtomy and slide organization to perform case compilation for pathology
Quality control completed cases
Scan cases out of the lab to pathology, maintain log books, and be familiar with location of stored specimens
Locate specimens and pulls from various departments as requested, paraffin block filing, lab document archiving, prepare and discard chemical reagents such as reagent alcohols
Perform safety checks in lab
Work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, Formaldehyde, etc.
Handle minute patient tissue samples
Requirements:
Associates degree (or equivalent course of study) in Histotechnician program OR
Associates degree (full course of study) in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and 1 of the following required:
a) 1 year of experience or training in histology within the past 5 years under the direction of board certified pathologist or
b) successful completion of a course of training of at least 9 months in a histotechnician program
AMT or ASCP certificate is preferred but not required
Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus
Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
