Job Summary
The Manager for Research Medicine ("Manager") oversees and manages multiple research projects and/or large multi-site studies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, grant budget preparation and submission, project budget tracking, and financial management, contract and invoice management, coordination of activities across multiple sites, and reports to funders and other key stakeholders. Oversees and effectively mentors research assistants, research associates, and research coordinators. Assists in the development of study materials and dissemination of results. Ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to good clinical practice by all team members. Conducts literature searches and retrievals; synthesize and summarize research data. Assists in the development and submission of grant proposals. Responsible for highly effective and constant continuous process improvement and operational efficiencies within all research functions and responsibilities above.
Essential Functions:
Manages financials of research projects and functions within the Department of Medicine, including effective and collaborative interface with SPARO and Grants Accounting. (15%)
Oversees and manages research projects, including resource and staff allocation. (15%)
Maintains regulatory compliance for all research studies within the Department of Medicine. (15%)
Positively, thoughtfully and collaboratively represents Denver Health within the community and among partnering organizations. (15%)
Oversees and manages research assistants and research study staff. (10%)
Responsible for full 'life-cycle' pre and post award administration, in conjunction with Sponsored Programs and Research Office. (10%)
Monitors and reports on program timelines and deliverables. (10%)
Develops and manages administrative, research, safety and HR standard operating procedures for the research team. (10%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Work Experience:
Five years of experience with clinical or health services research required.
One year of experience and exceptional results in supervising and leading a team, including coaching, mentoring, training and development of staff required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and ability to build genuine trust relationships through the organization and beyond.
Ability to manage and monitor submissions through Cayuse.
Able to lead, manage, advise, mentor, direct and evaluate employees with grace, fairness and accountability.
Exceptional organization skills to set priorities and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while responding to tight deadlines and multiple priorities and demands.
High proficiency and competency with federal grant processes and clinical trials, and knowledge of good clinical practice (GCP), institutional review board requirements, and clinical/health research regulatory processes is desired.
Extraordinary emotional intelligence and quotient.
Proactive problem solving and ability to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, required.
Familiarity with ATLAS.ti, SAS, and/or SPSS, preferred.
