The role you’ll contribute:
OurLegacy is designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as the only organ procurement organization (OPO) in east central Florida and is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) as a tissue recovery agency. OurLegacy's scope of operations extends to each of the following hospitals within the AdventHealth's Hospital system: Altamonte, Apopka, Celebration, Daytona Beach, Deland, East Orlando, Fish Memorial, Kissimmee, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Palm Coast, Waterman and Winter Park. Additionally, CMS has designated OurLegacy to provide organ and tissue donation services to all non-AdventHealth acute care and critical access hospitals and free-standing emergency rooms in the following counties: Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.
The Clinical Donation Associate (CDA) responds to all donor referrals not yet meeting the clinical criteria for brain death or when withdrawal of life support decisions are not yet made. The CDA is the team member responsible to routinely round on all referrals and manages OurLegacy's relationship with physicians and nurses in the ICU from which the referral has been made. The CDA also assists the Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) and team leader with all referrals related activities with specific focus on timely response, initial suitability screening, huddle coordination, hospital relationships, daily donation rounds and initial mention of donation (when necessary). This-call position may require extended work hours during periods of high activity, flexibility, and frequent driving. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Assumes 24 hour on-call responsibility for organ and tissue donation activity. Provides prompt response to organ and tissue donation referrals during a 24 hour on-call period. Performs thorough patient evaluation for organ and tissue donation. Recognize and understand brain death as a function of donation suitability. Provides exceptional customer service to our donor service area hospitals during any onsite visit or response. Maintains cordial and respectful relationships with hospital personnel. Coordinates donation huddle to communicate donation action plan to all relevant parties (i.e., hospital and OPO staff). When required, discuss donation option with family until Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) or Family Services Coordinator (FSC) can arrive onsite. Initiate donor case activities at the discretion of the team leader, as needed. Performs potential donor patient rounds, coordinates organ recovery cases/organ import offers. Rounds and/or calls various hospitals to determine potential organ donation. Document's donor information in OurLegacy database and communicates data to the OPC and team leader.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High School Grad or Equiv 0 years experience
Three years' experience in trauma center, emergency care, or other critical care experience
Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) experience
