The Athletic Training Program Supervisor assists the Sports Medicine Program Medical Director in managing the Athletic Training Staff and marketing the Sports Medicine Program. This position provides evaluation and rehabilitation services and information to injured players.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Manages and directs athletic training staff to ensure the highest quality of care for sportspeople.
Effectively coordinates and administers clinical and hospital personnel policies and procedures related to selection, orientation, training, assignment and staffing, evaluation, discipline and discharging employees in compliance with state and Federal labor laws.
Coordinates the athletic training outreach program to ensure effective and efficient operations. Ensures that services are provided in a cost-efficient way and in compliance with established policies, procedures and practices. Manages and budgets department to cover the projected costs of staffing, equipment and supplies needed to maintain quality and safe patient care. Provides information about supplies, personnel and equipment, as needed.
Provides rehabilitation services to the athletic population to rehabilitate injuries. Reviews and evaluates physician's orders, patient's medical records, and performs patient tests to figure out nature of injury and treatment required.
Performs triage on athletic injuries to appropriate physicians. Conducts modalities and procedures consistent with the physician's prescriptions, directions and goals established for the patient's benefit. Provides rehabilitation information to injured players.
Plans and provides information and education programs for patients and the community. Instructs patients and families on relevant topics based on assessed learning needs. Instructs and educates appropriate coaches and school officials on relevant learning needs specific to the injured player.
Markets sports medicine program to promote services to internal and external customers. Establishes the most cost effective and appropriate methods that will promote the Sports Medicine Program to staff and potential customers. Develops new programs in coordination with the Director and Physician Administrator to enhance community awareness and expand the program.
Ensures compliance with department policies, procedures and practices and with standards set by state, Federal, the Joint Commission (JCAHO), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Texas Department of Licensure and Regulation Athletic Training, and other regulatory agencies. Ensures that all Athletic Trainers maintain level of clinical skills necessary to provide quality patient care.
Communicates in a clear and concise manner any information that may influence the patient's treatment program or well being, including preparing clinical progress notes and other required documentation in accordance with established policies. Facilitates appointments for sportspeople and families to access healthcare services.

Must know and complete professional and technical requirements and provide the necessary documentation on such requirements.
Maintains current Athletic Training license and CPR certification.
Must have a working and ever expanding knowledge of the services offered within the department.
Must know the fundamental business underlying the program and be able to gather, interpret, and speak to the metrics inherent to the department.
Must be able to relate to other staff and peers in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
Must be able to manage and motivate a team of clinical staff to achieve goals and improve patient outcomes.
Must be able to communicate department performance to one up in an efficient and cohesive manner.
Beneficial to have a working knowledge of the market to assist with program development.
Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and help to solve problems early to develop a positive community image of the program.
