Under general supervision, the Payroll Specialist performs a wide variety of payroll processing activities to ensure the timely and accurate payment of employees. The position works with all levels of staff to answer questions regarding paychecks, timecards, policies related to Payroll, and other programs that may affect paychecks. The Payroll Specialist provides superior customer service in accordance with the Denver Health Standards of Behavior.
Essential Functions:
Performs weekly and biweekly payroll processes at the instruction of the Payroll Manager and/or the Lead Payroll Administrator. Reviews entries of peers for accuracy, assists co-workers as needed, and ensures all items on checklist have been audited and completed prior to processing. (70%)
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all payroll functions performed by Denver Health. Must be willing to cross-train on all duties assigned by Payroll Manager or Lead Payroll Administrator. Seeks efficiencies in all work processes on an ongoing basis and shares those findings with the Payroll team for overall departmental improvement. (15%)
Supports all employees, both current and former, vendors, and other outside callers, by addressing questions and/or concerns related to payroll in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. Provides clear and concise explanations. Treats all customers with courtesy and respect, following the guidance of the Payroll Manager, Lead Payroll Administrator, and the direction provided in the Denver Health Standards of Behavior. (15%)
Education:
Associate's Degree in related field. Required and
Two years clerical experience Required or
High School Diploma or GED High School Diploma or GED Required and
Five years Payroll experience Required
Work Experience:
1-3 years Two years clerical experience (dependent on education) Required or
4-6 years Five years Payroll experience (dependent on education) Required
Licenses:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of payroll functions, processing procedures, and payroll systems and software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with all Payroll and HR Information, HIPAA and Private Health Information (PHI) related to Denver Health employees, both current and former.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of payroll systems/software and timekeeping software.
