Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) in scenic - sunny Tucson, Arizona is currently looking to add a full time Physician Physiatrist.
Position Information:
The Physiatrist must practice only within the scope of his/her training, experience, and competence. The physiatrist should provide care throughout the full spectrum of physiatry care and that which represents the prevailing standards of physiatry practice. To this end, physiatrists should participate in a regular program of continuing education. The physiatrist will provide care in an inpatient physiatry consultation service as well as in an outpatient general physiatry clinic.
Job Duties:
Perform general physiatry examinations and ensure communication with the referring providers.
Orders and perform only those services that are medically indicated. The incumbent will prepare records that include relevant history, physical findings, assessment, and plan of evaluation and treatment.
Performs therapeutic procedures which can include, but is not limited to, EMG for spasticity, US guided joint injections, trigger point injections, diagnostic EMG.
Practice independently, using professional judgment and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to veterans and their significant others/family members.
Consults with the supervisor as needed and with colleagues to develop knowledge and apply agency policies and practices to new matters.
Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, and proposed new policies.
Must be poised, articulate, adaptive and respectful in communicating with and caring for people of varied educational, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
The Physiatrist reports to the Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care Service.
Work Schedule: Full-time, permanent, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
The Tucson VA Medical Center is a 295-bed hospital that provides training, primary care, and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible Veterans. The SAVAHCS offers a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full range of medical and mental health services for Veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry/substance use acute treatment unit, a 25-bed mental health residential rehabilitation treatment program for substance use disorders (SUD) and PTSD treatment, intensive outpatient programs for SUD and PTSD, homeless programs, and more. The SAVAHCS operates a 24-hour emergency department and is the host site for various regional referral centers of excellence including the Polytrauma Network Site, the Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center, and the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). The SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Annually, nearly 1,000 physicians and associated health trainees participate in health care training programs at the SAVAHCS.
