Occ Summary
Under the supervision of rehabilitation services department (formerly known as the PT/OT department) the Mobility Technician (MT) will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of care provide d to our patients. While utilizing the Bedside Mobility Assessment Tool (BMAT) completed by nursing staff, physical therapists and occupational therapists, this position offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with clinical teams to optimize patient mobility.
Work Performed
Level I Conduct a triage of the patients on their assigned unit to prioritize and identify patients who are suitable for mobility interventions during their shift. Able to select the appropriate equipment and method of patient transfer and mobility after consideration of the patient's ability to provide assistance, bear weight, cooperate and follow directions, height/weight, special circumstances, and mobility goals per B MAT level per nursing. Able to independently perform Basic exercise/ROM, bed mobility, ambulation, transfers in/out of bed/chair/wheelchair/bedside commode/toilet, utilizing lift equipment to promote out of bed activities and assisting therapists and/or nursing staff with mobility associated tasks guided by the nursing BMAT, MD activity orders, and patient's progress/participation with skilled rehabilitation services. Monitor physiologic changes/responses during exercise/mobility and appropriately adjust activity. Provide treatment to a variety of patients including bariatric, geriatric, and immobile. Able to manage multiple priorities when necessary and communicates well with other members of the healthcare team in carrying out daily responsibilities. Perform all interventions upon completion of competencies for related interventions. Reports responses/reactions to mobilization and documents in medical record as appropriate. Basic computer skills, ability to learn and use DUHS computer system programs. Understand oxygen procedures in transport of patients. Level II in addition to duties described in Level I, performs the following: Provide on-site supervision to assigned mobility technicians. Organize workload for assigned staff in fair and equitable way. Assist with orientation and training of level I MTs. Participate in review of activities and processes for area of work; assist in implementing changes to effect continual improvement in services provided; and comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Levels I and II Basic computer skills, ability to learn and use DUHS computer system programs. Knowledge and ability to learn some therapy principles, techniques, methods and modalities and their proper application. Knowledge and ability to learn some basic skeletal biomechanics. Knowledge and ability to learn basic functional anatomy and physiology. Knowledge and ability to properly apply physical therapy principles and practices in the rehabilitation of patients. Knowledge and ability to apply proper body mechanics and safety. Knowledge and ability to provide personal services for patients and care for equipment and supplies. Ability to understand, follow and communicate/relate oral and written instructions and pertinent information accurately. Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with patients, staff, and the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees.

Education
Graduation from high school or GED; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience
Level I - No experience required. Level II - Three years' relevant experience
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Levels I and II BCLS certification or obtain within first three months of employment.
