The Muskogee VA is currently recruiting for one Dentist in Endodontics at the Ernest Childers Outpatient Clinic. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Physical Requirements: The incumbent should be physically and mentally capable to perform the examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan, and educate residents. Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 4 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. CLINICAL SCOPE OF DUTIES. The Endodontic Dentist in the Dental Service shall be knowledgeable of all disciplines of clinical dentistry as listed below. The Endodontic Dentist should also possess the expertise and competency to perform their specific scope of practice defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process. General Dentists are licensed independent practitioners that practice based on their specific approved privileges and guidance derived from VHA, Medical Center, and Service Directives/Memorandums. All Dentists will provide direct patient care in an outpatient setting to an adult patient population with a high percentage of acute and chronic medical conditions. General Dentists report directly to the Lead Dentist, or Assistant Dental Chief at their clinic. General Dentist Duties: Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions Administer local anesthesia Perform routine and complex restorations of teeth Perform simple and complex extractions of teeth Perform alveoplasty and other routine surgical procedures Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns, and fixed bridgework. Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth Perform routine and surgical periodontal procedures Provides collaboration with dental staff assigned to their clinic location Responsible for clinic administration in compliance with VHA, Medical Center, and Dental Service Directives, Policies, and Procedures Assists supervisor in everyday activities and requirements of the dental service Has the ability to use Vista Applications when appropriate The Endodontic Dentist in the Dental Service shall also be knowledgeable of all disciplines of clinical dentistry as listed below. The Endodontic Dentist should possess the expertise and competency to perform their endodontic scope of practice defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process. Endodontic Dentistry is practice in the specialty and treatment of oral pain, disease, and infection of the pulp. It is comprised of the following duties: Endodontic Specialty including differential diagnosis and treatment of oral pain of the pupal and/or peri radicular origin and differential diagnosis of facial pain. Vital pulp therapies, regenerative endodontic procedures, and non-surgical root canal therapy. Selective surgical removal of pathological tissues resulting from pulpal pathosis, and/or repair of root defects. Surgical removal of tooth structure such as apicoectomy, tooth sectioning, root amputation and extraction. Treatment of dento-alveolar injuries, retreatment of teeth previously treated endodontically, treatment procedures related to coronal restoration by means of post and/or cores involving the root canal space. Placement of bone graft and guided tissue regeneration where treatment relates to concurrent endodontic treatment. Placement of retrograde restorations, and diagnosis and management of orofacial pain including temporomandibular joint disorders. Working in the full range of diagnostic and treatment functions performed in general dentistry, including examinations, interpretation of radiographs, Dental prophylaxis, Preventative and Operative Dentistry.
