This Food Service Worker position is located within the Nutrition & Food Service at the VA Bedford Healthcare System within VISN 1. With an assistive device, employee is required to maneuver and push pallets and carts with weights up to 400 pounds, may be required to push or pull objects that require excreting up to 40 pounds of pressure to overcome the inertia to begin moving. They may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. This work may require climbing on ladders and the use of powered cleaning equipment. Work areas may become uncomfortably warm and noisy. The work area may be hazardous, due to potential for cuts using knives or sharp equipment, burns from ovens, loud noises from equipment, and danger of falling on wet or slippery floors. There is a danger of slipping on floors, which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been spilt. Employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures of the kitchen and the walk-in refrigerators and/or freezers.
