JOB SUMMARY
Location BSWH BUMC DOWNTOWN DALLAS TX
Department Gross Room Histopathology
Shift Day 9:00am - 5:30pm Monday - Friday with rotating every 5th Saturday
Preferred Experience Must have HT or HTL ASCP
This position ONLY works in Gross Room of the Histopathology department accessioning, assisting the PA and Residents with Gross Dissection of Surgical specimens. performing Gross Dissection of Biopsy samples using Voice Recognition dictations. The employee will perform Cryostat microtomy sections assisting the Frozen Section team in Rapid Diagnostic Procedures. The employee will use Faxitron instrument to check decaled samples for completeness of calcium removal along with maintaining and loading tissue processors.
The Histotechnician 2 prepares specimens for microscopic evaluation and diagnosis by performing technical procedures that result in creation of microscopic slide preparation. Operates and maintains Laboratory instrumentation, records and documentation with minimum supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Perform variety of technical procedures resulting in creation of microscopic slide preparations.
- Follow quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
- Participate in laboratory projects and educational activities.
- Demonstrates and educates laboratory practices and technical skills to others.
