Medical Lab Scientist ProgramJob Summary
Under minimal supervision, develop and teach units of instruction in the School of Medical Laboratory Science for optimal student learning. Units must include current entry level knowledge/skills and follow program guidelines for instruction, including course objectives, course materials, educational activities, and evaluations. Correlate classroom material with student lab activities, if applicable. Develop laboratory activities to reinforce key concepts, if applicable. Provide prompt feedback to students. Participate in curriculum development and evaluation. Model ethical and competent professional behaviors. Attends School Advisory Committee meetings.
Essential Functions:
Develops and teaches units of instruction in the School of Medical Laboratory Science for optimal student learning. Use teaching and lab equipment effectively and safely. Provides prompt feedback to students. Responds to requested changes based on program evaluation and feedback. (75%)
Follows safety, life safety & infection control procedures for self, patients, and others at all times. Follows safe chemical, BBP, hand hygiene, and work practices to ensure EOC is maintained for the safety and efficiency for patients and staff. Is proactive when safety or infection procedures are not followed to ensure correction and to create a safe EOC. (10%)
Performs other related duties as assigned in order to expedite the testing process and support the achievement of department goals and objectives. Participates in Quality Improvement activities such as LEAN, PDSA activities to improve and reach departmental goals and improve services. (10%)
Participates in required competency testing meeting timeline requirements and to document maintenance of proficiency and competency in required skill sets in all departments worked. Employee maintains the minimum continuing education contact hours set by DHMC management staff. (5%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Required
Work Experience:
Three years? work experience in a clinical laboratory Required and
Good lab skills and knowledge of current entry level practice, techniques, and lab safety Required and
At least one year of documented teaching experience at the MLS level is highly desirable; and
Ability to use current teaching technology; development of learning objectives and test items. Required
Licenses:
MLSASCP-Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Evidence of teaching ability to teach students of varying abilities and background.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
Able to develop cohesive educational units of instruction using current educational requirements and strategies to include classroom and student lab (if applicable).
Willingness to work as a team player.
Skilled in using innovative technology and enhanced learning strategies (eg.-Kahoot).
Ability to use Microsoft Office.
Ability to use AV equipment.
