The VISN Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) Specialty Care Pain Senior Social Worker position is a VISN based position located in VISN 9. This Specialty Care Pain Senior Social Worker position is under the general supervision of the VISN CRH TelePain Section Chief. A Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) is a repository of clinical and administrative staff that serve Veterans Affairs facilities within a Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN). "Remote" Eastern time zone only" Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualification criteria must be met for each grade. The candidate's qualifications must clearly demonstrate the level of competence required for the grade. Experience: At least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment and are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. (e) Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. Preferred Experience and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification Full independent licensure at the advanced practice level At least two years should be in an area of specialized social work practice. The senior social worker serves in the VISN TelePain program within the CRH. The incumbent has a high degree of motivation, skill, and dedication to effectively deliver evidence-based psychotherapies and case management for a variety of diagnoses, including chronic pain and co-occurring mental-health and behavioral-health conditions. Clinical Duties include: 1) Provides comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessment and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range of mental health issues receiving care within the VISN TelePain program, including services for patients with complex psychopathology and psychosocial needs requiring advanced diagnostic and intervention skills. 2) Demonstrated expertise in using contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for mental disorders and/or behavioral health conditions. 3) Provides education to patients and family members regarding mental disorders and best practices approaches to treatment. 4) Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties, which may include individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation. 5) Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the medical center. 6) Develops, implements, and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients as indicated and appropriate for specific job setting and duties. 7) Coordinates community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs, and community agencies. 8) Possess general knowledge of Veteran's benefits and services relating to special program. 9) Independently collaborates in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact patients and staff, including initiating and participating in ethical consultation. Maintains Veteran confidentiality. Analyzes ethical/care issues, applying appropriate theoretical principles and ensures application of institutional policy. Provides considerate care, respecting Veteran/family and staff personal values and belief systems. 10) Develops working relationships with the community and VA providers to whom referrals are most often made and becomes knowledgeable with what community and resources are available to Veterans (i.e. housing, work readiness, food, financial, independent living skills, social, and healthy living resources). 11) Refers veterans to a wide variety of community and VA housing resources, maintains the relationships with those respective agencies, facilitates interagency communication and care conferences as needed and provides discharge planning for Veterans that maintains a continuity of care. 12) Complies with all service line's documentation requirements, including for timely completion of patient record notes, use of required documentation templates, clinical reminder, treatment plans, and risk assessment protocols. 13) Adheres to all Facility and Service Line policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including but not limited to risk assessment and reduction practices for potentially dangerous behavior (suicide and violence), timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and electronic health record documentation conventions. 14) Achieves minimal clinical workload expectations as established by the service line. 15) Other duties as assigned.
