The Supervisor position within the centralized Patient Access Division is responsible for the accurate, timely and thorough data collection and processing of patient information for all patient types who access services in the acute care based facilities, inpatient and outpatient. Each supervisor may have a specialized focus responsible for a unique portion of patient data collection and processing based on a specific stage of the revenue cycle. Each supervisor must have a working understanding of all steps in the process for two primary reasons: 1) To design, build, maintain and improve their own department to support the other interdependent departments and 2) To provide coverage and leadership to all segments of Patient Access when requested. The preparation of the patient to receive services at WakeMed requires that Patient Access collect all required information patient information, financial/coverage information and clinical information to meet the needs of the patient and the provider. Patient Access supervisors must execute such that the patient is financially cleared for services, appropriate referrals are made for financial viability of the visit and data is collected to support corporate initiatives such as meaningful use, quality of and reimbursement. The supervisor must understand, support and implement the guiding vison and policies of WakeMed Health & Hospitals, the regulatory requirements of state and federal entities and the tenets of accreditation and professional access services organizations. The supervisor is responsible for the leading an assigned department of patient access professionals by providing the staff direction, education, training and guidance. The supervisor may be called upon to perform direct access activities when deemed necessary. In order to lead, provide direct services and more important, to create/plan/evaluate the supervisor must demonstrate a high level of expertise about the detailed responsibilities of the staff and departments procedures and policies.
